A Step-by-Step Guide to Roof Replacement

April 28, 2021 by admin

Roofs tend to get damaged in their lifetime since they are prone to a lot of adversities. Having a faulty roof can have many disadvantages, so once you recognize that your roof has completed its lifetime and requires replacement, you should do it as soon as possible. However, the task of roof replacement is an extensive one. It entails a thorough and systematic procedure that requires diligence and proper aftercare before you can say that it is finally installed. In order to make the process relatively easier, we have outlined the steps to help in getting your task done.

MAKING SURE THAT YOUR PROPERTY IS PROTECTED

The first and the most important thing to start the process with is to make sure that you have carefully covered the property surrounding your house including the walls, windows, plants and any outdoor furniture on your porch. Also, make sure that there are no kids playing around during the whole process because there is a high risk of someone getting hurt. In addition, wear safety gears to prevent an accident and to stay safe from injuries.

REMOVE THE OLD MATERIAL

The second step to roof replacement is to start removing all the material from the old roof. Start by taking off the shingles. After you are done with that, a clean wood deck will be exposed.

EXAMINING THE DECK

Examine the wood deck properly to see if there are any holes, leaks, or wood infection inside. Check for any nails, which might be out of place. It is very important that you do not leave out the re-nailing step. Make sure you remind the workers to check for all missing nails. Otherwise, even if your roof is properly installed, some bumps might still be there.

PUTTING UP PREVENTION SHIELDS

Once the deck has been secured, you will need to install certain kind of sheets over it, which will act as a protective measure. First, put a drip edge on the roof that will prevent the rainwater from seeping into the roof. The second sheet will be for water protection and will protect the roof from any kind of leaks. Lastly, the roofing felt needs to be put up so that the shingles do not get stuck to the deck.

START PUTTING DOWN THE NEW ROOF

Now that all the preparations are done, start putting down the material, gradually from bottom to up. This step might take some time but make sure you put all the shingles the right way, without getting yourself hurt. Once all shingles have been placed, put the ridge vent up.

FINAL STEP

Once the roofing has been fixed, the last step is to inspect the new roof properly to assess if additional work is required. Once you are finished, remember to clean the site properly so no potentially dangerous materials stay behind.
